Da c. Nel 1770 divenne di moda rivestire le pareti delle stanze con arazzi dipinti. Con le loro scene idilliache, potevano trasformare una stanza in una casa sul canale in un'oasi. Questi tre dipinti (insieme ad alcuni mancanti) presentavano un paesaggio olandese continuo, interrotto solo dai pannelli, dalle finestre e dalle porte della stanza. Sono stati realizzati per una stanza della casa al 22 di Nieuwe Doelenstraat, Amsterdam.
