Gauermann was not a passionate hunter, but he was happy to take part in hunting parties, as they provided him with many ideas and motifs for his paintings. He has not so much held the "heroic" act of this entertainment, but its consequences: on a chariot drawn by two oxen carts a hunted deer with magnificent antlers is transported into the valley. Just one is about to cross a small stream, demanded that both the truck driver and the dog most attention. By moving, broad brush stroke, the situation is immediately described, which makes it look more documentary than telling.
