Johann Gottfried Auerbach came in 1716 to Vienna, where he has created in the wake many paintings for the imperial court and the aristocracy. 1741 finally was appointed imperial chamber painter. From his hand portraits exist of Emperor Charles VI. and his wife Elisabeth Christine of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel as well as by Maria Theresa and her husband Francis Stephen of Lorraine.
