This "Pierrot standing in a landscape" is a copy of the center of a decorative panel part of the decoration painted by Nicolas Lancret for Boullongne hotel, built by Jules Hardouin-Mansard on the Place Louis-le-Grand (now 23 Place Vendome, at the corner of the rue de la Paix). Jean de Boullonges, steward of the King's orders, had given to the artist in 1728 running a decorative set of five panels and four top-to-door. Lancret are represented subjects of pastoral, gallant festivals or commedia dell'arte, then very fashionable. remained in situ until 1896, the decor was deposed and sold in its entirety in Paris, at the Galerie Georges Petit (May 27, 1896, No. 7 and 8, Fig.).
